The Civil Rights Coalition is an OCPF filed Ballot Committee whose purpose is to Suspend and Repeal Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024. We were officially formed on August 26, 2024
We Are You.
Neighbors. Teachers. Veterans. Parents. Your Doctor! Your Local Police Officer. Your Neighbor.
The Civil Rights Coalition is a nonpartisan, grassroots movement of everyday people standing up for our fundamental freedoms. We are your neighbors—school teachers, doctors, firefighters, veterans, senior citizens, parents, students, and hard-working Americans from all walks of life. What unites us is a deep belief that government should serve the people, not control them.
We came together to protect our constitutional rights—especially when they’re under attack. In Massachusetts, Chapter 135 (formerly H.4885) was signed into law with sweeping mandates that turn law-abiding citizens into criminals overnight. This 116-page law doesn’t target violent criminals—it targets you. It forces honest citizens to register personal property, reapply for rights they’ve held for decades, and comply with confusing, burdensome rules that violate due process and privacy.
We’re not lobbyists. We’re not politicians. We’re citizens who believe enough is enough.
We believe:
- The Constitution still matters.
- Civil rights don’t expire based on political trends.
- You should not need a government-issued license to defend your home.
- Registration and surveillance of law-abiding citizens is not “common sense”—it’s overreach.
- Facts Matter: Truthful, transparent data is essential to making informed decisions.
- Civil Rights Are Non-Negotiable: The right to self-defense and responsible gun ownership is a cornerstone of personal freedom and public safety.
- Accountability is Key: Releasing violent offenders onto the streets poses a greater threat than any legally owned firearm ever could.
- Common-Sense Solutions: Rather than creating thousands of ineffective new laws or attempting to outlaw guns entirely, we need policies that address the root causes of crime—recidivism, lack of enforcement, and a failure to rehabilitate or penalize repeat offenders.
In just 45 days, over 800 volunteers helped collect more than 100,000 signatures—nearly 95,000 of them certified—in one of the largest grassroots efforts Massachusetts has seen in a generation. Despite political roadblocks, we are undeterred. We’ve entered Phase 2 of our campaign: to repeal Chapter 135 at the ballot box in November 2026. 70% of those who signed the petition were Independent / Unenrolled Voters.
We don’t care about party labels—we care about protecting liberty.
We are The Civil Rights Coalition. And we’re here to protect your rights, your future, and your voice.
Our ultimate goal is to foster meaningful dialogue and solutions that enhance public safety without compromising constitutional freedoms.
