The law imposes burdensome regulations that disproportionately affect responsible gun owners, sportsmen, and marginalized communities, without addressing the root causes of violent crime. In addition, Chapter 135 does not include a single provision increasing penalties or prison time for those who use guns in criminal acts. The rushed passage and emergency preamble have raised serious concerns about transparency and voter disenfranchisement. This law fails to address public safety effectively while infringing upon the rights of Massachusetts residents.
